At the glittering annual RYA Powerboat Awards presentation held at the De Vere Royal Bath Hotel in Bournemouth on Saturday evening (6th Feb), Patrick Byrne, the Managing Director of Lymington-based Scorpion RIBs, was extremely surprised, honoured and delighted to be announced as the recipient of the prestigious Offshore Sponsors Trophy selected by the RYA’s Offshore Racing Committee.
Patrick was presented with the Award by the legendary solo round-the-world yachtsman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston CBE, who tried his hand at powerboat racing in the 2009 Cowes Torquay Cowes Race as navigator for one of the evening’s co-presenters, top female powerboat champion, Shelley Jory-Leigh in a Scorpion Sting, our 10m RIB.
Patrick is a huge supporter and devotee of RIBs and their capabilities when it comes to offshore cruising and racing.
